FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use Sterisure Piercing Aftercare Spray?

Use the spray as directed on the product packaging and according to the aftercare instructions provided by your professional piercer.

Always wash your hands before touching a healing piercing and avoid unnecessarily moving or rotating the jewellery.

How often should I clean my piercing?

Follow the instructions provided by your professional piercer and the directions on your Sterisure product.

More cleaning is not necessarily better. Excessive cleaning or repeated touching can contribute to irritation.

Can I use Sterisure Aftercare Spray on a new piercing?

Sterisure Piercing Aftercare Spray is designed for piercing aftercare. Use it according to the product directions and the advice provided by your professional piercer.

Should I twist or rotate my jewellery?

No. Avoid twisting, spinning or unnecessarily moving your jewellery while your piercing is healing. This can irritate the healing tissue.

Why does my piercing have a bump?

Piercing bumps can have many possible causes, including friction, pressure, jewellery movement, unsuitable jewellery, accidental trauma or irritation from products.

A professional piercer can assess your piercing and jewellery to help identify possible sources of irritation.

For more information, see our Piercing Bumps & Irritation guide.

Can I use the Sterisure Piercing Bump Solution on any piercing?

Follow the directions on the product packaging. If you’re unsure whether the product is suitable for your piercing, speak with your professional piercer before use.

Discontinue use if irritation occurs.

How long does a piercing take to heal?

Healing times vary considerably depending on the piercing location, jewellery, individual anatomy and other factors.

A piercing can look healed on the outside before the inside has completely healed, so continue following your piercer’s aftercare instructions throughout the healing period.

Can I change my jewellery while my piercing is healing?

Avoid changing jewellery yourself during the healing process unless advised by your professional piercer.

Some piercings may require a professional jewellery downsize during healing.

Can I swim with a new piercing?

Swimming and soaking a healing piercing can expose it to bacteria and other contaminants. Follow your piercer’s advice about when it is appropriate to return to swimming and other activities.

What should I do if I think my piercing is infected?

If your piercing becomes increasingly painful, hot, swollen or discoloured, develops significant discharge, or you feel unwell, seek medical advice.

Do not assume that every piercing bump is an infection.

If you suspect an infection, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.

How should I store Sterisure products?
