Piercing bumps can have many possible causes, including friction, pressure, jewellery movement, unsuitable jewellery, accidental trauma or irritation from products.

How long does a piercing take to heal?
Healing times vary considerably depending on the piercing location, jewellery, individual anatomy and other factors.
A piercing can look healed on the outside before the inside has completely healed, so continue following your piercer’s aftercare instructions throughout the healing period.
Can I change my jewellery while my piercing is healing?
Avoid changing jewellery yourself during the healing process unless advised by your professional piercer.
Some piercings may require a professional jewellery downsize during healing.
Can I swim with a new piercing?
Swimming and soaking a healing piercing can expose it to bacteria and other contaminants. Follow your piercer’s advice about when it is appropriate to return to swimming and other activities.
What should I do if I think my piercing is infected?
If your piercing becomes increasingly painful, hot, swollen or discoloured, develops significant discharge, or you feel unwell, seek medical advice.
Do not assume that every piercing bump is an infection.
If you suspect an infection, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.
